It has been enlightening to explore the relationship between materials, practicality, and aesthetics in this textile design course. Understanding how various fabric qualities, such as durability, texture, and colorfastness, influence design choices in practical applications was one of the most insightful lessons learned. It was possible to choose materials that satisfy user requirements and safety norms by using concepts like NFPA 701 compliance, fabric colorfastness testing, and knowledge of cleaning codes. I intend to apply this information to my studies and other projects going ahead, especially when creating environments with specialized functional needs like interior design for homes, hotels, or healthcare facilities. Finding out how textiles might address more general design issues, like enhancing acoustics or encouraging sustainability, was a "Aha" moment for me.
